What Is GovAI?
GovAI is an AI assistant designed for people working in government.
It helps you write, understand, and learn information by responding to questions you type into a chat box. Similar to having a helpful assistant you can talk to.
People use GovAI to:
Write or improve emails and documents
Summarize long policies or reports
Understand complex topics in plain language
Brainstorm ideas or next steps
Save time on everyday tasks
GovAI is built specifically for public-sector work, with safety, privacy, and government context in mind.
GovAI is designed to be easy to use, even if you’re new to AI. You don’t need technical knowledge. Just type what you need help with, and GovAI will respond.
What Is Generative AI?
Generative AI is a technology that can create new content, such as written text, based on your question or instructions.
In simple terms:
You type a question or request, and the AI writes a response.
You don’t need to understand how it works, you only need to know what you want help with.
Example:
You type: “Make this paragraph shorter and clearer.”
GovAI replies with a revised version of your text.
Why GovAI Exists
General AI tools aren’t tailored to government needs. GovAI focuses on public‑sector work by helping you communicate clearly, understand complex material, and make first‑draft progress quickly, while keeping privacy and security in mind. It aims to save time on everyday tasks without replacing your judgment, approvals, or records processes. It provides answers that make sense in a public-sector context.
When Should I Use GovAI?
You can use GovAI whenever you want to:
Save time on writing or reading
Understand something more clearly
Get unstuck or figure out next steps
Learn a new topic quickly
Improve wording or tone
If you’re thinking, “I wish someone could explain this,” GovAI is a good place to start.
Examples:
“Transform this council report into a 1-page, AODA‑compliant website notice.”
“From these 350 tickets (CSV uploaded), list the top 5 recurring issues and a one‑sentence solution for each.”
“Rewrite this by‑law amendment in plain language and add a ‘What’s changing/Why it matters/How to comply’ section for residents
“From these procurement specs, draft an RFP scope of work and 6 weighted evaluation criteria aligned to Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive.”
From these 75 resident emails, cluster themes and suggest three evidence‑based responses we can post in our project FAQ.
Key Term: What Is a Prompt?
A prompt is simply the question or instruction you type into GovAI.
You don’t need special wording.
Examples of prompts:
“Explain this policy in simple terms.”
“Write a short email requesting a meeting.”
“Summarize this report in three bullet points.”
“Give me an example of this concept.”
