Updating your GovAI assistant helps it better understand your context, focusing on the right details, using the right tone, and delivering insights that match your goals. Each assistant is designed with its own strengths and configuration, so switching ensures you’re always getting the best fit for your current work.
In this article, you’ll learn how simple it is to switch to another assistant and keep your workflow running smoothly.
Note: Any changes you make are personal to your account. When you set a new assistant, it becomes your default for all new prompts going forward.
Switch from GovAI GPT-5 to a GovAI GPT-4o
Our most recent model update was the launch of the GovAI GPT-5 assistant. But you may choose to switch to a GovAI GPT-4o assistant when you want faster, lighter responses for everyday work. GPT-5 excels at deep reasoning and complex analysis, while GPT-4o is optimized for speed and smooth, conversational tasks, making it great for quick drafting or routine workflows.
Start in any chat. Above the prompt field, click the assistant name and model badge.
In the Select Assistant panel, look for the GovAI assistant that uses gpt-4o. Click Use GovAI to switch the assistant.
Choose any other available GovAI assistant
If your organization has created custom GovAI assistants and granted you access, you can follow the same steps to choose the one that best fits your prompt. For example, you might have an HR assistant designed for HR-related tasks.
The screenshot below shows examples for demonstration only. They may not match what’s available in your organization, as many are custom assistants.
Setting an Assistant as Your Default
You can set any available assistant as your personal default, the one that automatically starts with all new prompts and threads. This helps you stay consistent and saves time, so you’re always starting with the assistant that best fits your work.
In the Select Assistant panel, find the assistant you’d like to make your default, then click Set as Default.
Change the reasoning model
Some GovAI assistants powered by GPT‑5 let you choose the level of reasoning effort. For example, prioritizing speed for quick drafts or deeper analysis for complex tasks. Below the prompt field, open the reasoning menu and pick the effort level that fits your work. If you want help deciding which reasoning effort to use and when, see Understanding GPT‑5 in GovAI.
